"The Death of a Blonde" Before and After by Senior Stylist Monique Cardenas

Blog written by Hairroin Salon

We found the most beautiful blog post written about Hairroion Salon's own Senior Stylist Monique Cardenas today that we thought we would share with you all!

The post was written by "Guy's Gal", J. Michelle who is an author for the beauty blog Glow Blog.

Taken from Glow Blog:

" When you’re about to do something drastic with your hair I highly recommend going to someone who’s great with color, has a resume and knows what they are doing. Going to a random person that isn’t familiar with your hair texture and chemistry can be disastrous. Monique Cardenas from Harroin Salon is my go-to hair lady. She has an impressive resume and lucky for me her specialties are bobs and color. After sitting down with her for 2-3 minutes she practically read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted. On a side note, your hair stylist should connect with you and get what YOU want, not what THEY want, then interpret that into something fabulous. The countdown to my hair being saturated with color began. Last chance to back out. I’m not exaggerating when I say that panic mode kicked in. Will it look good? What if it’s not the right color? What if I hate it and want my blonde back? This is where your mental preparation beforehand comes into play and your stylist (or in this case new psychologist) should be right there to talk you through it."

Janine Jarman's Shoulder Tattoo

Hello folks! It’s been a crazy last few weeks! We at Hairroin Salon have received over 50 emails in the last few weeks about the tattoo on Janine Jarman's shoulder.

Asking to see better pics, what/who inspired it, and who it was done by. We finally had some time to snap off a few close ups and thought I would post them for you all to see. Let her know on
Janine Jarman's Facebook page if you have any questions that you want her to answer as well!

1. When did you get the tattoo on your shoulder? About two years ago.
2. What exactly is it? It’s a collective of ideas that was mainly inspired by my Grandmother (the heart doilies ), and one of my favorite artists : Kukula
3. How long did it take to get finished? I actually went in twice, once for the black and white which took about three hours, then again another time for the rest of the color. The color took about another two and a half hours.
4. Where did you get it done and by whom? Neil from Classic Tattoo Studio. His shop is in Upland California. While there are tons of amazing artists here in LA, this guy is beyond amazing. Their address is 1710 W. Foothill Blvd. Suite F1 Upland, CA 91786 and the phone number is 909-949-7971. If you have the time to go sit down with Neil, then you are in luck. He is a genius, and one of the nicest people ever. His myspace is click here for Classic Tattoo Studio .
5. Do you have any other tattoos? Haha, too many to tell. I have a huge corset lace tattoo covering most of my back, as well as a bunch of little tattoos.
6. Can we see the corset tattoo? Sure. 

'What Goes Around Comes Around' 1-Year Anniversary In Hollywood

We found some great articles for the LA Fashion Week event that Hairroin Salon did at the fabulous store : What Goes Around Comes Around .  Hairroin did all the make up and hair for the live mannequins staged up in the front.

The below quote is from the article at LA.COm : 'What Goes Around Comes Around' 1-Year Anniversary In Hollywood :: Olivia Munn, Janine Jarman

"Hair and make-up on the elaborate, multi-model display was styled by WGACA's Cahuenga neighbor Hairroin -- a beautiful, pseudo-Victorian, Beetlejuice meets Anthropologie vibed salon owned by the adorably bite-sized and firecely big-time Janine Jarman (who's killing it on Shear Genius this season)."

Taryn, from Blog.Blush.com writes in her article LA Fashion Week: What Goes Around Comes Around Vintage Fashion Show :

Photo from Taryn from Blog.Blush.com

"As a Long Beach resident I am treated to totally fantastic and ridiculously budget friendly vintage fashion pretty much every time I step outside of my house. In fact, my favorite haunt, dubbed Retro Row, is a whole block of particularly amazing vintage clothes and furniture shops that is used quite often as the first pit stop for Mad Men set designers and costume designers. Being this spoiled makes it a bit difficult for me to get too thrilled about having to venture all the way to Hollywood for a vintage fix. So when I got the invite to the What Goes Around Comes Around Fashion Week launch event, I was excited, but not completely convinced it would be worth the drive. Boy was I wrong!!!"

Laurie Brucker, from Examiner.com wrote in her article What Goes Around Comes Around Hollywood celebrates it's one year anniversary
“I love the mix of plaids, leather, fur, a pop of a tiger-esque print and open toe booties. Then entrè into a Moroccan themed land of bohemia. Moroccan meets Native American, as Seth put it. The scene was exactly what you wanted with serious fashionistas, vintage lovers, and celebrities laughing, drinking, mingling amongst the to-die-for clothes.”

Laurie also took some fabulous photos:

Chanel Haute Couture 2010

Blog written by Beatrice (Senior stylist at Hairroin Salon)

Chanel always gets it right. bags, clothes, everything Karl Lagerfeld does is perfection.
I am loving the hair from the Chanel Haute Couture 2010 fall runway!

...it kind of reminds me of the hair Hairroin Salon styled for Jared Gold’s spring show! I'd like to think we inspired Karl ;)

Hairroin Salon's owner Janine Jarmansaid "Karl Lagerfeld is a fashion genius", as we have said many times here on the Hairroin Blog. The way that he puts his vision to fruition is utterly unbelievable. Not only does Chanel put out amazing couture, but the runway shows are always out of this world. The Hair and Make up are to die for. This past Collection was no slouch by any means. It was so refreshing to see unique colors on a classic brand. Chanel hit the floor with dusty pastels and had the hair in a modernized version of the classic gibson hair-DO which is a favorite of mine. Staying true to the brand while still keeping an ear to the street and reinventing the classic Chanel through new relevant mediums. I LOVE THIS HAIR!!!!

Macy's Passport Fashion Week

blog by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
Janine and I are off to San Francisco to do the Macy's Passport Fashion show next week . Then we will be bringing the whole Salon Hairroin team together for the Southern California version. We are doing two days in San francisco and two days in Los angeles. We are taking over from di Pietro Todd salon in San francisco. They have done this show for 7 years and are passing the torch to us. This is a giant show for us. This show is a fund raiser for AIDS. They have raised millions for the cause in the last 10 years. Despite budget cuts the show will still go on! As a hair dresser we have a big job ahead of us. We have over 90 models and dancers to prepare and that is not including any talent that needs last min. touch-ups too. We have 5 hours to make the show beautiful. This is going to be really fun and a crazy challenge. I am a excited to see the hair we get to do - I hope for really fun and foxy! My next blog will be all about this and I will include some pics... wish us luck and go buy tickets and check it out!

gold vs petker. fashion show

article originally posted on Juxtapoz.com

Jarred Gold and Joshua Petker Fashion show!

The event took place July 30th at Club Social Hollywood- it was a collaboration between Designer Jared Gold and artist Joshua Petker, two humans i really admire! So i was flattered when Jessicka asked me to help host the event along with a ton of other super cool hosts , DJ's and entertainers (see list at Jareds website ). As a host i was required to hang around and drink Mohito's, I thought that could handle that! The only sucky thing was that i forgot to bring my camera with a flash so i only got really crappy photos of the event!!! I appologize in advance-

Hair, Fashion, and Music

Blog written by Matt (Friend of Hairroin Salon)
There are a few things that go together like peanut butter and jelly; and hair, music, and fashion are definitely some of them.

Today I heard a song that always makes me happy, Peter Bjorn and John's - Nothing to Worry About... This song has such a happy go lucky weekend vibe to it, that if it doesn't put you in a good mood, then you may need to check your pulse. After I heard this song today I decided to look it up on youtube to see what the video looked like as I had never seen it before.

To my suprise I see one of the greatest blends of hair, fashion, and music I have ever seen. Japanese/mod/greaser/biker/punker/rocker/american/Michael Jackson-esq circa 1985 themes. (did you get that?)

First scene, great use of flat iron, hair dryer, brush, hairspray, gel, and hand mirror...SICK pomp on this dude. Not to mention the rest of the hair in the vid. Thumbs up and happy friday.

Here it is:

love,
Mattfromotm

Her name is Victoria, she was super sweet!
I was not able to take another day off of work so the crew; Kristy, Monica, Art, and Brandon; came to meet me at the salon. I was really happy to welcome my crew to the salon. They got to hang out while I got Victoria ready.
Once she was ready, they all took of to go make magic happen. I meet up with them later in the afternoon. To catch the black and white series.
Here are some snap shots from that day. I hope you enjoy.

photoshoot for Effie Liu

blog written by Beatrice (Senior stylist at Hairroin Salon)

I helped my friend F.E put together a photoshoot for her new line of mens clothing. She designed a line of really clean modern looking clothing, scarfs, and a little caplette. I was really impressed to see her finished products! I brought fellow Hairroin addict, Noel Nichols to do some simple mens grooming makeup and i styled model, Matthew's hair. The photographer, Rush is one of F.E.'s friends. It was so nice to have a team of all friends working together! We started our shoot off in Downtown, LA where we took some studio shots against a simple grey backdrop. Our second location was in Silverlake where we shot on the balconies of an amazing old brick building.
I'll update with the finished shots as soon as i get them in. Here are some behind the scenes photos.
