Janine and I are off to San Francisco to do the Macy's Passport Fashion show next week . Then we will be bringing the whole Salon Hairroin team together for the Southern California version. We are doing two days in San francisco and two days in Los angeles. We are taking over from di Pietro Todd salon in San francisco. They have done this show for 7 years and are passing the torch to us. This is a giant show for us. This show is a fund raiser for AIDS. They have raised millions for the cause in the last 10 years. Despite budget cuts the show will still go on! As a hair dresser we have a big job ahead of us. We have over 90 models and dancers to prepare and that is not including any talent that needs last min. touch-ups too. We have 5 hours to make the show beautiful. This is going to be really fun and a crazy challenge. I am a excited to see the hair we get to do - I hope for really fun and foxy! My next blog will be all about this and I will include some pics... wish us luck and go buy tickets and check it out!

marcy gives kara a makeover.
blog written by Marcy (Master stylist at Hairroin Salon)

My client Kara- who has platnium blond hair with extentions to her waist- was ready for a change. I have to admit I was a little nervous because doing a change on platnium hair= hard to go back if they are not into it. You really have to make sure they are ready. So kara and I have been talking about it for a while and I was sure she was ready for something big. We decided on a super dark brown with cool undertones. The dark brown before black. In order to make bleached hair dark you must add in the missing pigments- the ones you removed when you bleached it. I filled her hair with 5/6g(midway coutour) mixed with 1/2 each of gold, orange, and red super mix from color perfect. Applied this from the line of demarkation to the ends. Under heat for 20 min. Rinse. I applied 33/0 koleston perfect with 10 volume peroxide to the roots and 4/0 with 10 volume to the more porous ends. Beautiful! Super shiny and even. I replaced her blond extentions with the new
darker version and viola! She looks so awsome... It was a super fun project- sorry about the hair nerd formula included!

bargain style
blog written by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
My very favorite thing to do in the whole world is thrifting. On our drive up north, we got to stop at a few stores. I looove thrift town. It is in northern California and one in vegas. They are a little bit like savers. Anyway, we stopped in one I'm San pablo and I scored some xtra cute gold owl glasses-8 of the. Solo cute. Then we went to a hospice thrift store in placerville and we found 3 new chairs- one vintage modern, one from the 50's and one wood folding chair with a knealing thing on the back, I think for a catholic priest or something- but its cool. I got two 70's hawaiian dresses. So cute.
anyone who goes thrifting knows you win some and you loose some- this time I won for sure.now I'm on the look out for some red wing dishes in the lute song or Tampico pattern... Let the collecting begin...

home sweet Hairroin
blog written by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
I'm just driving home from my San francisco work trip. Aaahhh i5. So I work in San francisco for a few days every two months at a salon called cowboys and angels on union square. I love the crew there and the city is still an amazing place to me. You can dress however you like and even if you look crazy someone will give you a compliment. No joke. You can walk everywhere and you'll see something beautiful. I stayed with my friend michelle's in the mission. I got to drink coffee at fays video store and coffee shop and get croissants at tartine. Delicious! We ate at delfina and had bi-rite icecream. It doesn't get any better than salted caramel ice cream.
working at cowboys is always a good time. The stylists are really talented and fun to bearound. David just got back from australia and he was working with an agency doing hair and on vacation. I saw some pics - really cool. Brandi just started making hair oil for hair that is super dry and frizzy. I hope she makes enough for us to sell at Hairroin one day... I'm trying to talk some of the staff up there into working at Hairroin part time too. Spread the love I always say...the staff at Hairroin would totally inspire them and vice-versa. We do so many fun things at Hairroin that are not available in San francisco- such as magazine shoots, tv and movies. They would love it!
I miss San francisco- but i found a. New home down here in Hairroin... I'm glad I still get to tap into that one too...

Davines World Wide Hair Tour
blog written by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
The Davines world hair competition is coming up again, I can't wait to get my shoot underway. Last year they didn't have it so I was surprised to hear that it's on again. I was the winner for North America two years ago and I got to go and compete in Barcelona with 10 other people for Asia, Europe and South America. I had to do a cut and color on stage with a model - it was a little nerve wracking... I was not the winner of the entire event, but it was ok with me. The winner gets to go back to the competition the next year and have 15 min. on stage to do what they think is inspirational. I was Pregnant and would not have been able to go anyway... So fast forward to this year and my photoshoot... I will be shooting Beatrice (another stylist at Hairroin) again- she's the best model- I think I will be doing a really simple idea of cute pencil jeans with suspenders or a jumper with lots of lashes and just her cute ass haircut. I am using a white screen and brite lights. I hope
it will be fast and easy... I love the team I am working with - Steven Barston -photographer and Noel Nichols doing make-up. I'll let you guys know how it turns out...
here is a photo of last year's entry

Marcy's oscar weekend.
blog written by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
Hey everyone, I just wanted to tell you a little bit about my oscar weekend...
I think los angeles is a crazy place, you can meet the coolest people and go to the craziest parties, then go home and just live a regular life...
I started my weekend on Saturday night after a super busy day at the salon. I went to my friend laser's birthday party at Lucy liu's house in the canyon. It was so fun. Her place is so beautiful and relaxing. A beautiful pool and the tulip magnolia trees I love . Laser is her interior decorator, so her place is off the charts - of course. We just drank wine and hung out for a few hours. Really nice. I didn't want to stay long because I had a busy day the next day- oscar day.
I had two different sets of people to to for the day. One directed Kung fu panda and the other produced a documentory short about the man who witnessed martin Luther king's assasination. I was hopeful that one-if not both would win.
I went to my first client's house and cut and styled john's hair and set and styled his wife. Her dress was amazing- vintage French lace made into a corseted beauty. He was in a tux- of course. I felt like they were all good, so I split to my second client's house...
I got to margaret's house none too soon. Her limo was scheduled to be there in two hours and she needed to have hair, make-up and get dressed. We decided on a version on the fa-bob. Loosly put up with waves. I set her hair and did a mini French twist on the bottom and pulled back a few, but not everything from the front. She went to make-up. NBC was there to do a piece on her about people going to the oscar's for the first time- it was chaos. She was wearing a beautiful black long dress with six inch heels- ouch. She looked radiant. I cried- for real...
I watched the show that night and caught glimpses of my people and got excited. By the end - neither of my people won, but it was still fun to be a part of their cool ass day.
