Janine in Modern Salon magazine

I just came across this interview online and decided to post it. This article was featured back in January in Modern Salon magazine. Back in January Janine put together a hybrid of burlesque and hair stage show for Sexy Hair concepts. Nowadays Janine's hair is now long and brunette, and she traded up to working on the Sebastian Professional artistic team, but her interview is still very "janine".

Celebrity stylist, salon owner and founder of Haute Hollywood Locks, Janine Jarman teams up with Kitty Burns and Tristann Ford-Gordon in Sexy Hair’s The Girly Show, a platform presentation with grrl power.

My hair right now: A bright blonde, heavy-fringed bob.

My style: This season, a little Mary-Kate Olsen meets gothic Lolita.

My favorite outfit: My black puffy corset skirt with fuzzy chandeliers that I got in Japan; two white undershirt tank tops with the neck cut out; my Chanel earrings and my Christian Louboutin heels.

The Girly Show’s look: We stay loosely themed with our styles so that we look cute next to one another on stage. This year, we are going to play up the international school-girl vibe, in a fun, fast-paced, costumed, full-out burlesque review of updos and hair styles ranging from Marie Antoinette to punk rock to geisha.

My favorite accessories: Brooches! I have an amazing Anna Sui velvet bow with a magnet dangling from it so you can put whatever you want on it. I have my salon logo on it.

My “play” style: Fun and comfy. I love ballet flats and handmade knit hats. I also have colorful vintage scarves and lots of long necklaces and big bangle bracelets.

I can’t live without: Large plain white V-neck T-shirts and my long black knit sweater with oversized buttons.

My mentors: Donna Federici, former vice president of Sexy Hair, taught me to be fearless, let nothing and no one stand in your way and be sure to help others as you go. Michael O’Rourke took me under his wing and made me a better hairdresser and person. And my grandmas, who have been the voice of reason and a cheer squad rolled into one!

I’m a hairdresser because: I love to see people transform and feel beautiful in their own skin and hair (or hair for purchase if need be). It’s the best thing to feel great about yourself, so if it takes some highlights and bangs to get you there, I’m happy to help.

Why The Girly Show: The majority of hairdressers are women and it would be nice to see girls in the spotlight for a change. I’m so over in-depth hair cut demos from men dressed in black. Last time I checked, I got into doing hair so I could have fun all the time. The Girly Show is about keeping it real, looking cute, feeling great, having a kick-ass time and walking away inspired.

Luis gets hairbrained with Adam Lambert.

blog written by Beatrice (Senior Stylist at Hairroin Salon)

One of our favorite blogs Haironthebrain - a blog full of hairbarained ideas featured a write up of Hairroin's representation of Sebastian Professional at the Young Hollywood Awards and touched up Adam Lambert’s hair at the event.

Luis Payne, a Senior Stylist at the amazing Hollywood salon, Hairroin, represented Sebastian Professional at the Young Hollywood Awards and touched up Adam Lambert’s hair at the event.
I only watched bits and pieces of American Idol this year, but that’s more than I’ve ever watched before. I’ve never been a big fan of the show, but I liked Adam Lambert. He was so different than the other contestants–everyone else on those shows is so safe and boooring. I would much rather have someone over the top and performancey. Scream your head off and wear a full face of makeup. Much better than strumming politely like a second rate John Mayer.
Anyway, Luis wrote about it all on Hairroin Salon’s blog:
I’d have to say the highlight of the evening is when Adam Lambert came to our haircare lounge backstage. The last time I styled his hair was for the Zodiac Show ‘08. Hairroin Salon has been styling hair for this eclectic show for the last several years. After greeting Adam, he quickly sat down for a hair touch up. Adam couldn’t believe we were there and was stoked by our presence. He said it was nice to see familiar faces. I used Sebastian Microweb Fiber in his hair and finished with Re-Shaper.
For you Lambert fans who are looking to get a pompadour of your own, Hollywood Life has the lowdown on how to recreate his infamous ‘do:
Step 1: Emulsify a couple pumps of Sebastian Professional Microweb Fiber onto your finger tips.
Step 2: Starting at the ends of the hair, work the elastic texturizer throughout the hair and into the roots.
Step 3: Push hair into desired shape and create separation where needed.
Step 4: To finish the look, spray hair with Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper hairspray for humidity-resistant, strong hold.

Hairroin joins forces with Sebastian.

blog written by Marcy (Master Stylist at Hairroin Salon)
Here's the situation. Salon Hairroin was looking for a product company to work with on extra activities- fashion shows, photo shoots, etc... So long story short, we got an opportunity to show sebastian/wella what we were about. They were looking for a team to handle some of their fun stuff and we hoped we could fill their void as well as get some help with our product need. So we put together a team and put together some looks for a two hour presentation. Here's how it went...
We had four haircut and color looks and three updo looks.
For the haircuts and color we broke down the looks into four cities- tokyo, sweden, bombay, and la villa de guadalupe. the looks were all inspired by the cities culture and the street fashion there. Sweden was a short haircut good for men and women. Bombay was a medium length haircut with an undercut on both sides. Tokyo was a haircut within a haircut - kind of an aline bob on top of a long cut. la villa de guadalupe is a super textured medium length fun, crazy wild look. We broke down the looks and talked a little bit about our own personal history as well as our place within the salon team. We finished off the program with our debutant looks. We chose looks from the 40's 60's, and 80's. We revisited the beauty of those years, but gave them a modern feel.
We were all really nervous going into this 2 hour presentation, but once it began we all felt really good. We had a great time and the entire presentation just came together. I think that it had something to do with the fact that Sarah had done a complete power point video and sound track for us. Thanks Sarah- you rip!
Sebastian loved our presentation. Our first assignment for them is the Young hollywood Awards. I can't wait to show what we've got and just have a good time. I think we are going to start video blogging so you all can watch first hand... Get excited! Salon Hairroin is killin' it!

Continued Education.

blog written by doug (Junior Stylist at Hairroin Salon)

One of the many things I love about the Hair Industry is that there is so much opportunity for continued education and self growth. I feel very lucky to be in a salon where each individual stylist has a passion
(or obsession) to learn more and understand more about the workings of our trade and apply it to our everyday salon life. I'm proud to know that I can say this without a doubt!

On Monday March 23rd our Salon Hosted a small gathering of educators
from the Sebastian team to share with us different techniques and concepts of cutting hair. Three educators taught and presented their
cuts, concept, and finished product via live models for us. After they presented us with their Gallery collection of styles, we broke for lunch only to come back to live models of our own to practice what we learned that very morning. It was a very intimate and eye-opening experience for us. Each one of our Hairroin stylists took something new and different that they learned and physically applied it to their own skill set and presented their project to the rest of our group when finished.- yeah, we're hair nerds- we tend to geek out on hair!- But we look good doing it and bring it home so you can look good too!
